CHRISTINA CAMPANELLA is a composer and performing artist who works with music and sound across artistic disciplines.
Her original pieces for theater, film, installation and playback blend songwriting and composition with aural design, weaving found sounds, ambient textures, and a dreamy pop-rock sensibility into cinematic soundscapes and deconstructed art songs. Recent compositions include two sound-and-cinema works with filmmaker Peter Norrman, Parts Are Extra and No Wake for the Great Learning Orchestra (Fylkingen, Stockholm); Lighthouse 40°N, 73°W (with sound designer Jim Dawson, NY Electronic Art Festival, Governors Island), Breathe (with sculptor Arthur Ganson, Museum at MIT), Red Fly/Blue Bottle (with writer Stephanie Fleischmann at EMPAC, Noorderzon, EXIT Festival, HERE Arts Center).
She has also been an actor/vocalist in downtown theater and independent film since 1998, played keyboards with various New York bands, and is a frequent collaborator of composer/sound artist Joe Diebes (WOW, botch, i/o). In 2018, Christina will perform in Diebes’ opera oyster at Roulette in Brooklyn.
She is a recipient of 3 NYSCA Individual Artist Commissions in Film, Media, and New Technologies as well as support from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation, American Music Center, Whitman College and New York State Music Fund. She holds a BA in Music and Theater from Bennington College.
